Inspiration: Alex Webb

An other Magnum photographer, California born Alex Webb is famous enough for his various publication in the NY Times, National Geographic Magazine. His history of award winning is quite impressive (and I am not talking Flickr awards...) .

More about him here.

What I love about his work? His framing choices are a mix of inventive genius and academic perfection: using and breaking the rules on the same shot. Having completely off subject in a perfectly composed image, leading to amazing story telling: the subject is not the only subject, his context becomes as or even more important. It is the one skill you are looking for when shooting documentary. He know how and where to crop, he can multiply the impact of an image by showing part of a contextual element or person. And composition...I know I said it, but damnit, that is the real deal.
